Representatives from the railway sectors of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan held discussions on November 8. Zufar Nazrullayev, the acting chairman of "Uzbekistan Railways", convened with Bakht ur-Rehman, the head of the Taliban railway department. They concurred to promptly commence efforts to enable the transportation of commercial goods to Mazar-e-Sharif via rail.
The primary focus of the talks centered around the refurbishment of the Hayraton-Naibabad-Mazar-i-Sharif railway segment. Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to initiate construction work conducted by specialists from "Uzbekistan Railways" on the Hayraton-Naibabad-Mazar-i-Sharif route.
This collaboration introduces new possibilities for enhancing railway links between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, fostering stronger trade and economic ties.
Both parties expressed optimism for further collaboration and mutually advantageous partnerships in railway transport. They foresee this cooperation contributing to the enhancement of regional transportation infrastructure and the creation of favorable conditions for economic and trade development in both Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, as per the report.
The Hayraton-Mazar-i-Sharif railway has been non-operational for over two years due to damage and forms a crucial component of the Trans-Afghan railway project.
