In a diplomatic encounter, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, welcomed the arrival of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the capital city of Kazakhstan, Astana. Erdogan's visit to Kazakhstan was in conjunction with the 10th-anniversary summit of the Organization of Turkic States, a momentous gathering of nations with shared cultural, historical, and linguistic ties.
The meeting between the two leaders took place against the backdrop of mutual appreciation and a commitment to enhancing the multifaceted relationship between their countries and strengthening the broader Turkic world. President Tokayev expressed gratitude for President Erdogan's vital contributions during the summit and commended the growing partnership between Kazakhstan and Türkiye.
Addressing President Erdogan, President Tokayev emphasized the special bond between their nations:
"Türkiye is our fraternal people, as well as the closest and most reliable strategic partner of Kazakhstan. Mr. President, you personally make a huge contribution to the development of relationships. I really appreciate it. Thanks to regular contacts, many of our agreements are successfully implemented today. Last year, bilateral trade increased by 54% and reached $6.3bn. We intend to increase this figure to $10bn."
President Tokayev emphasized that Türkiye holds a prominent position among Kazakhstan's top four trading partners, showcasing a vibrant collaboration in investment, and hosting more than 4,300 Turkish-capital companies actively operating within Kazakhstan.
Notably, President Tokayev also extended warm congratulations to President Erdogan and the Turkish people on the centennial anniversary of the formation of the Turkish Republic. To mark the occasion, a street in Astana was named "Anadola," with plans for the inauguration of the Turkish Park in Shymkent and the installation of a monument to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in Almaty.
In response, President Erdogan expressed his gratitude to President Tokayev for hosting the 10th-anniversary summit and highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation for mutual benefit:
"I congratulate you on the successful conduct of the summit. I thank you for the decision to build a school in the Nurdag region of the Gaziantep province, which suffered from an earthquake on February 6 of the current year. I am sure that this school will become one of the symbols of the Turkish-Kazakh fraternity, which will be faithful to future generations. In the conditions of the current global and regional situation, the Turkic world must maintain close interaction."
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing their strategic partnership, placing particular emphasis on strengthening political dialogue and fostering cooperation in various fields, including trade, economy, investment, energy, transportation, agriculture, and cultural and humanitarian endeavors. They expressed confidence that all necessary conditions are in place to elevate the Kazakhstan-Türkiye relationship to new heights.
During their meeting, President Tokayev and President Erdogan also exchanged views on pressing international and regional matters, further emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation and coordination within the Turkic world.
