President of Uzbekistan arrives in Astana for Turkic countries summit

The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, arrived in Astana on a working visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan, following an invitation from the president of Kazakhstan. The visit precedes the upcoming Council of Heads of State of the Turkish Countries, where leaders will convene to discuss a wide range of topics aimed at strengthening their collaboration within the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).

President Mirziyoyev's visit commenced with a warm welcome at the airport by Kazakh Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov, reflecting the amicable relations between the two nations. The Uzbek President's visit to Kazakhstan highlights the enduring spirit of cooperation and unity among Turkic countries.

The primary agenda of the summit will encompass various domains of mutual interest, including trade, economic collaboration, investments, transport and communication networks, environmental concerns, cultural exchange, humanitarian cooperation, and other crucial areas. This gathering provides an exceptional opportunity for leaders to explore innovative approaches to addressing shared challenges and leveraging their common heritage.

One of the most significant developments expected to emerge from this summit is the approval of a joint civil protection mechanism. This initiative aims to create a cooperative framework among member states that will enable them to respond efficiently to natural disasters and address pressing needs during emergencies within their respective territories. This mechanism underscores the commitment of Turkic nations to come to each other's aid during times of crisis, reinforcing their bond as a united regional bloc.

Uzbekistan currently holds the chairmanship of the Organization of Turkic States, and this summit will be a platform for the exchange of leadership, with the chairmanship transitioning to Kazakhstan. This transition signifies the ongoing rotation of leadership roles within the organization, ensuring that each member state has an opportunity to contribute to the development of the group's objectives and priorities.

The Organization of Turkic States, founded to promote cultural, economic, and political cooperation among its member countries, includes Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkey as full members. Hungary and Turkmenistan serve as observers within the organization, demonstrating the growing interest and recognition of the OTS on the global stage.
