On the sidelines of the Kazakh-French business forum, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev welcomed leaders of prominent French business structures to discuss ways to enhance economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and France.
One of the key meetings took place with Emmanuel Besnier, the General Director of Lactalis Group. President Tokayev acknowledged the pioneering role of Lactalis Group, which entered the Kazakh market two decades ago and has since established several successful factories and dairy farms in the country. Amid global concerns about food security, the president stressed the significance of strengthening cooperation in the agro-industrial sector and food production. Kazakhstan, he noted, actively encourages investment in the deep processing of agricultural products.
Emmanuel Besnier expressed his gratitude for the meeting and outlined Lactalis' plans to expand its presence in Kazakhstan by opening new production facilities. This move is expected to contribute significantly to the economic relationship between the two nations.
Another crucial discussion took place with Christian Weisen, the President of Boehringer Ingelheim France. President Tokayev highlighted the importance of the recent agreement between Kazakhstan's QazBioPharm and the French company Boehringer Ingelheim. This agreement involves the transfer of technology to produce vaccines against foot-and-mouth disease in Kazakhstan, a development that aligns with the country's commitment to veterinary welfare and food security. Kazakhstan is actively working to create a biotechnology cluster and has established a national biopharmaceutical holding, QazBioPharm, to drive the development of this industry.
Lastly, Stefan Layani, the General Director of Semmaris, discussed the joint project to create a large agro-processing hub in the Almaty region. This project is scheduled to launch in 2025, with Kazakhstan's investments amounting to $150mn. In a reciprocal gesture, the company will provide technology transfer and share best practices from the initial stages of the project, further solidifying the collaborative ties between the two nations.
