Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan Rashid Meredov and Murat Nurtleu "touch base" on the international and regional agenda during a meeting in Ashgabat. Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry reports that "the views and positions of the two countries coincide or are similar on many issues".
Special attention was paid to aspects of cooperation on the Caspian Sea issues and within the framework of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.
The sides concretised the main areas of cooperation in the issues of rational use of water resources in the region, as well as in such spheres as energy, textiles, agriculture, ecology, transport, logistics and telecommunications.
The two countries are neighbours across the Caspian Sea, with a common land border of 458,263 km.
At the end of 2022, the level of total trade was $438.2mn, compared to $254.3mn in 2021 and $127.9mn in 2020. Last year, there was a surplus in favour of Kazakhstan, which exported $340.2mn and imported $98mn.
Kazakhstan's main exports to Turkmenistan are grain, flour, ferrous metals; chemical and mineral fertilisers, and non-metallic ores. Imports to Kazakhstan include citrus fruits, tomatoes, mineral, chemical and textile products.
