The United Nations is considering the possibility of holding the International Forum on Sustainable Energy in Turkmenistan in 2025.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports that this issue was discussed during a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister Myahri Byashimova and the Director of the Sustainable Energy Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Dario Liguti.
The parties discussed issues of cooperation in the field of green energy, sustainable energy and reduction of methane emissions.
Methane is a climate threat 80 times more potent than CO2.
Turkmenistan is one of the most important suppliers of energy resources in the region. The fuel and energy sector is responsible for the majority of man-made methane emissions.
Ashgabat is considering joining the Global Methane Pledge.
Local experts told Daryo that Turkmenistan is working to increase associated gas recovery and reduce natural gas losses during production, transportation, storage and processing.
