A creative meeting dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the birth of the classical Turkmen poet Makhtumkuli Fraghi was held in the building of the Union of Writers of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan reports. The event was held as part of the Days of Turkmen Culture in Uzbekistan.
The Turkmen delegation also visited the Museum of the Union of Writers of Uzbekistan, where editions of classical and modern Turkmen literature in Uzbek were displayed.
Makhtumkuli's legacy is honoured in Uzbekistan. One of Tashkent's central streets is named after him, and a bas-relief of him was installed there in 2017.
His book 'Elinga bakhsh aila' (Dedicate Yourself to Your People) has recently been published in Uzbek. Historians say there is evidence that Makhtumkuli once studied in Khiva and Bukhara and considered Alisher Navoi his mentor.
Turkmen filmmakers are now making a documentary about this period in Makhtumkuli's life.
