Uzbekistan is ranked 101st out of 191 countries in the United Nations Human Development Index, which currently stands at 0.727, marking a 20% increase compared to the data from the year 2000.
According to center for progressive reforms, The Human Development Index takes into account various factors related to the quality of life and well-being of the population, including life expectancy, educational attainment, and gross national income per capita.
Globaldatalab has presented Uzbekistan's Human Development Index scores, breaking them down by regions. For instance, Tashkent has achieved the highest score of 0.813, which is on par with Turkey, Romania, and Russia. Meanwhile, the southern regions of Uzbekistan, including Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya, have demonstrated lower scores comparable to those of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Venezuela. Over the past two decades, Tashkent region has seen a growth rate of 23%, while Syrdarya and Jizzakh regions have grown at a rate of 21.6%. Conversely, Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions have shown the lowest growth rates at 18.2%.
The components related to education and healthcare have relatively high scores in all regions of Uzbekistan, with average values of 0.782 and 0.743, respectively. Tashkent boasts the highest educational component score at 0.821, while several regions, such as Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya, Namangan, Fergana, Andijan, Navoi, Bukhara, and Samarkand, have lower scores at 0.736. As for the healthcare component, the best results were observed in Jizzakh and Syrdarya regions, while lower scores were noted in Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions.
The income component reveals significant disparities between the capital and the regions. In Tashkent, this indicator stands at 0.791, while in other regions, the average results are 22% lower.
