Both sides recognized the deepening relationship between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea, founded on the principles of mutual respect, trust, and understanding. They also acknowledged the rapid development of cooperation in various economic and environmental sectors.
The delegation from the Republic of Korea received an extensive briefing on the sweeping reforms taking place in Uzbekistan's water management sector. These reforms were initiated under the leadership of the Uzbekistan government and are in line with the "Water Management Development Concept 2020-2030." One of the pressing issues addressed during the meeting was the growing concern over water scarcity, which has been exacerbated by the effects of climate change.
Uzbek officials detailed the measures taken at both local and regional levels to tackle the challenges posed by water scarcity and climate change. Among these measures, a prominent focus was placed on digitalization, including the widespread adoption of water-saving technologies and the implementation of "Smart Water" devices and other information and communication technologies. The Republic of Korea's role in these advancements was lauded, highlighting the collaborative efforts with the Korean Cooperation and Development Agency (KOICA).
The Uzbekistan delegation highlighted how Korean experts had been instrumental in installing devices aimed at measuring water consumption in irrigation networks. These devices have proved to be highly effective in the management of water resources, ultimately contributing to better water conservation.
During the meeting, discussions revolved around expanding cooperation in water resources management and environmental protection. Both nations expressed a shared commitment to reaching agreements that would further strengthen their collaboration in these areas. The potential for technology exchange, environmental conservation, and joint initiatives to address water-related challenges emerged as significant aspects of the ongoing partnership.
