In her recent Telegram channel post, Saída Mirziyoyeva, an aide to the President of Uzbekistan, announced that the "Where in the World is Tashkent" conference is taking place in Tashkent on October 18-19, 2023. This event serves as the culmination of the ambitious "Tashkent Modernism XX/XXI" project, dedicated to preserving the modernist architectural heritage of the capital city.
Uzbekistan is renowned for safeguarding unique architectural traditions, spanning from the grandeur of ancient Khorezm fortresses and the magnificence of Timurid-era mosques to the innovative everyday architecture of mahallas. The nation takes immense pride in this rich heritage.
While honoring this legacy, Saída Mirziyoyeva emphasized the importance of recognizing the exceptional 20th-century architectural marvels that grace Uzbek cities. In particular, Tashkent is positioned alongside cities like Helsinki and Bilbao, known for their outstanding modernist architectural landmarks.
"This conference is expected to foster the exchange of ideas between local and international experts, leading to the development of a comprehensive program for the preservation and celebration of the architectural heritage of Tashkent." - noted Saida Mirziyoyeva.
