Uzbekistan and China forge agreement on renewable energy cooperation at 'One Belt, One Road' forum

Uzbekistan and China forge agreement on renewable energy cooperation at 'One Belt, One Road' forum

In a significant development on the sidelines of the third international forum "One Belt, One Road" held in Beijing, an intergovernmental agreement on the development of cooperation in the field of renewable energy sources was inked between the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan and the State Energy Administration of China. This agreement marks a pivotal step towards bolstering energy security, advancing green and low-carbon energy initiatives, and achieving carbon neutrality.

The agreement, signed during a meeting attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, builds upon the Joint Statement made by the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Uzbekistan on September 15, 2022. Its primary focus is on cultivating mutually beneficial cooperation for the effective utilization of renewable energy sources.

One of the key aspects of this agreement is the acceleration of the transition to "green development." This encompasses the construction and modernization of power transmission networks to accommodate renewable energy sources, the establishment of a robust scientific and technical base in the renewable energy sector, and joint research initiatives. Notably, both nations will work together on large-scale solar and wind energy projects, as well as the widespread implementation of energy-saving technologies and systems.

The signatories of the agreement emphasized that this collaboration is not limited to the energy sector alone. It is expected to have a positive impact on the well-being of residents in both countries. The broader aim is to foster economic development, environmental sustainability, and improved living standards for their citizens.

Uzbekistan and China have shared a growing interest in renewable energy, and this agreement reaffirms their commitment to addressing the global challenge of climate change. The cooperation between these two nations is expected to be a model for other countries looking to develop sustainable and environmentally friendly energy solutions.
