Uzbekistan has taken a significant step in advancing its tourism sector by joining the "Mastercard Tourism Innovation Hub." This strategic partnership was announced during the 25th session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) held in the historic city of Samarkand.
The agreement was formalized during a meeting between the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the leadership of the global payment giant, Mastercard. The signing of a memorandum of understanding marked a milestone in Uzbekistan's efforts to promote tourism and enhance its payment infrastructure.
The memorandum was signed by Aziz Abduhakimov, the Minister of Ecology of Uzbekistan, and Nikola Villa, Head of Global Public Sector and Executive Vice President for Strategic Development at Mastercard.
“The Ministry welcomes cooperation with Mastercard. This allows us to improve our payment infrastructure, learn about the accommodation experience for domestic and international guests, and analyze data on spending and tourism flow. It also opens wide prospects for promoting Uzbekistan as a tourist destination among those who use Mastercard cards in more than 200 countries and regions of the world," Abduhakimov expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership.
Nikola Villa, representing Mastercard, shared his excitement for the collaboration with Uzbekistan.
"We are pleased to announce the start of long-term cooperation with Uzbekistan on the development of the tourism industry. Uzbekistan has an extremely rich heritage, wonderful culture, and many attractions. This beautiful country has great potential, and we are proud to contribute to Uzbekistan's development with our technology platform, advanced payment solutions, international experience, data analytics capabilities, and other capabilities," Nikola Villa stated.
The "Mastercard Tourism Innovation Hub" aims to develop digital solutions for the government, local and foreign tourists, and tourism enterprises in collaboration with Uzbekistan's ministries and subordinate organizations. This partnership will assist in creating a safe, reliable, and convenient payment infrastructure for travelers and small businesses. Furthermore, it will provide valuable analytical data to monitor trends and develop strategies for the promotion of Uzbekistan as a tourist destination. Joint research and the sharing of advanced global experiences are also integral aspects of cooperation.
