Geosky Airlines (Georgia) has launched cargo flights on the routes Tbilisi (Georgia) - Zhengzhou (China) - Turkmenabat (Turkmenistan) - Zaragoza (Spain). The International Information Centre (IIC) of Turkmenistan reports that the airline's aircraft made its first landing at Turkmenabat Airport.
The international air harbour will be used as a transit point due to its convenient geographical location at the crossroads of air, rail and road routes connecting Asia and Europe. The IIC notes that the opening of the new air cargo service will be a serious stimulus for the expansion of bilateral trade and economic co-operation.
"Turkmenistan considers further development of multifaceted relations with Georgia, as well as strengthening effective cooperation with countries in Asia, the Caucasus and Europe as one of its priorities."
In Turkmenabat, the administrative centre of Lebap region of Turkmenistan, a new international-class airport was put into operation in 2018. The cargo terminal with storage facilities is designed to handle 200,000 tonnes of cargo per year.
The 3,800-metre long and 65-metre wide runway is equipped with modern ground-based flight support facilities - lighting and meteorological systems, which allows servicing aircraft of all types.
Turkmenistan is also used as a transit point by such companies as Cargolux Airlines International S.A. (Luxembourg), Air Cargo IAS (Italy), Coyne Airways (UK) and others.
