Local authorities of Afghanistan have reported that at least 120 people have died, and over a thousand have been injured as a result of a powerful earthquake in the Herat province of western Afghanistan. These figures may continue to rise as many individuals remain trapped under debris.
Four villages in the Zenda Jan district have been particularly affected, with dozens of homes sustaining damage.
According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake was recorded in the region on Saturday, with its epicenter located 40 km northwest of the city of Herat, followed by several aftershocks.
