The Pakistani government has made a significant decision to deport all Afghan illegal immigrants residing within the country starting November, 2023. This move comes amid concerns of national security and the involvement of Afghan illegal immigrants in activities such as financing terrorists and engaging in smuggling operations, Daryo correspondent in Afganistan reported.
"Approximately 1.7mn Afghan nationals in Pakistan do not have any legal residence documents and 4.4mn Afghan immigrants live in Pakistan," reported Pakistan Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti.
The deportation process will begin by targeting Afghan individuals who have overstayed their visas and have failed to renew them on November. Subsequently, those who have violated the terms of their residence permits will also be subject to deportation. These measures are being implemented to enhance migration controls and ensure the safety and security of Pakistan.
The deportation program has already been presented for discussion with the Taliban, who now hold power in Afghanistan. Under this program, individuals found in violation of immigration rules will be provided with a one-month grace period to voluntarily leave Pakistan. This approach aligns with the government's commitment to addressing the issue while allowing those affected to make arrangements for their departure.
