A working group led by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Zulayho Mahkamova, recently conducted a comprehensive study focusing on the issues faced by women in the region. The team's mission included strengthening family values, preventing conflict among women, promoting successful experiences found in Ohangaron city, and providing support to families on the verge of divorce or facing conflicts. The delegation visited the Beruni district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan to familiarize themselves with local efforts and discuss ways to address these challenges.
The visit commenced with a respectful tribute to the great ancestor of the region, encyclopedist scientist Abu Rayhan Beruni, as flowers were laid at the base of his statue.
One of the critical aspects of the delegation's agenda was to understand the employment situation of women in the district. "Rayhon Apparel", an enterprise engaged in the production and export of sewing and knitting products, was showcased during the visit. With over 300 women currently employed at the company, it plays a vital role in the economic empowerment of local women. The company manufactures both men's and women's clothing from imported fabric, utilizing modern sewing machines and cutting equipment. Furthermore, the company has plans to start textile production in 2024, providing additional opportunities for local women.
In the Beruniy district, residents have developed innovative approaches to utilizing farmsteads, resulting in three harvests per year and increased income. Notably, the "Bo'ston" neighborhood has successfully implemented homestead greenhouses in 211 houses, benefiting 6,818 residents. Deputy Prime Minister Zulayho Mahkamova engaged with the greenhouse owners, who are involved in cultivating crops and flowers, offering her valuable recommendations. This experiment, unique to the Republic of Karakalpakstan, has not only contributed to affordability in the domestic food market but has also boosted family incomes and improved overall living standards.
A roundtable discussion held at the "Bo'ston" neighborhood meeting brought together local luminaries and community members to discuss the prevention of family disputes, violations involving women and girls, and the wealth of experience possessed by neighborhood elders. The meeting also provided an opportunity for Deputy Prime Minister Mahkamova to share her insights and hear from the local community. Additionally, the report of Aytbayeva, the chairman of the "Bo'ston" neighborhood assembly, detailed the ongoing initiatives in the neighborhood and outlined future plans to strengthen the role of local communities and establish public control mechanisms.
Following their investigations in Beruniy district, the working group convened with women's activists from Beruniy, Tortkol, and Ellikkala districts in the district administration's meeting hall. The group discussed the primary causes of crimes committed by women, the importance of maintaining consistent statistical data, and conducting psychological interviews with individuals listed in the "Women's Register." Moreover, the focal point of the discussion revolved around strategies to prevent family divorces and address the underlying issues contributing to marital conflicts.
Deputy Prime Minister Zulayho Mahkamova emphasized the commitment to promoting human dignity and working towards a New Uzbekistan. She quoted the head of the state, stating;
"When a woman is happy, the family is happy, and when the family is happy, society is happy."
The event concluded with the presentation of a housing certificate to Sharipova, a resident of Beruni district in need of social protection.
In addition to Beruni, the working group, under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister Zulayho Mahkamova, also visited Ellikkala, Moynaq, and Kungirot districts, demonstrating the government's dedication to addressing the challenges faced by women across the region.
