The Ministry of Energy's press service has reported a significant increase in the illicit consumption of electricity and natural gas, resulting in substantial financial losses. In the month of September alone, consumers' unauthorized use led to damages amounting to UZS 111.4 bn ($9,080,081), marking the highest monthly figure recorded this year.
Collaborative efforts between "Uzenergoinspection" and law enforcement agencies during rigorous monitoring operations unearthed a staggering 911 instances of illegal electricity and gas consumption last month. The combined theft amounted to 94.5 mn cubic meters of gas valued at UZS 91 bn ($7,443,762), as well as 42.9 mn kWh of electricity worth UZS 20.3 bn ($1,636,237).
The highest concentration of infractions was found in the regions of Samarkand, Fergana, and Tashkent, where the majority of the violations occurred.
These revelations shed light on the pressing issue of energy theft, highlighting the need for enhanced measures to combat such unlawful activities. Efforts to address this problem will likely involve intensified monitoring, stricter regulations, and increased public awareness campaigns to deter individuals from engaging in illegal consumption practices.
