The Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan Health Decade, commencing on October 2, marks the initiation of an important period of collaboration between the two nations, deeply connected by shared history, traditions, and a mutual understanding that transcends language barriers.
The close ties between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan have grown stronger in recent years, thanks to constructive dialogues between their leaders. This cooperation extends to various sectors, with healthcare taking center stage. The overarching goal is to usher in innovative advancements in the healthcare systems of both countries. The ten-day Uzbek-Azerbaijan Health Decade is a significant step toward achieving this objective.
One of the most critical aspects of this collaborative endeavor is the convergence of medical expertise and resources from both nations. A focal point of this effort is the introduction of innovative medical practices and technologies. The Health Decade aims to harness the collective medical capabilities of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan to advance the quality of healthcare.
As part of the Health Decade's agenda, numerous activities are planned in seven medical fields, which include:
- Minimally Invasive Surgery and Transplantology
- Ophthalmology
- Oncology
- Gynecology
- Traumatology
- Consultations
The collaborative efforts will involve joint practices, master classes, and the performance of over 100 high-tech minimally invasive surgeries on adults and children. The medical facilities chosen for these procedures include six major institutions and their regional branches:
- Republican Specialized Surgical Medical Center (named after academician V. Vahidov)
- Children's National Medical Center
- Republican Center of Scientific and Practical Medicine of Specialized Oncology and Medical Radiology
- Republican Scientific and Applied Medical Center of Specialized Eye Microsurgery
- Republican Perinatal Center
- Republican Center of Specialized Traumatology and Orthopedic Scientific and Practical Medicine
This collaborative effort offers Azerbaijani medical professionals the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the transformations taking place in Uzbekistan's healthcare system. Simultaneously, they can exchange valuable experience with their Uzbek colleagues.
The Health Decade will culminate in an Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan medical forum held in the Uzbek capital, involving the health ministers, senior administrators, and leaders of prominent medical institutions from both countries. This forum will delve into various aspects of the healthcare industry, including digitization, pharmaceuticals, traditional medicine, medical education, and scientific research. Additionally, the event will witness the signing of bilateral memorandums and agreements to further solidify collaboration.
A notable outcome of the Health Decade is the anticipated agreement to send 100 Uzbek specialists, comprising 50 doctors and 50 medical workers, to Azerbaijan for training and retraining, further enhancing the medical expertise exchange between the two nations.
