A shipment of hepatitis C medication has been delivered from Sharm el-Sheikh to Tashkent. This shipment marks the fifteenth humanitarian aid batch provided by the Egyptian government.
It's worth noting that these agreements were reached during the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Egypt on February 20-21 of this year. During this visit, the President proposed that the treatment for hepatitis C would be covered by the state, following negotiations with the Egyptian Ministry of Health.
The humanitarian assistance includes 6,240 packages of Sofosbuvir-400mg, packed in 75 boxes, which will be allocated to patients at the Research Institute of Virology under the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan.
According to experts, Egypt's humanitarian aid will allow Uzbekistan to save UZS 35 bn ($2,8 mn) allocated from the state budget to combat hepatitis C. These funds will enable an increase in population screening from 10,000 to 1 mn people, facilitating the detection of hidden viruses and making it possible to completely eradicate the disease.
