Deputy Prime Minister-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtleu, and Miguel Ángel Moratinos, High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), recently convened in New York to discuss crucial matters concerning interfaith cooperation. The meeting, which took place at the United Nations Headquarters, emphasized the importance of fostering dialogue and understanding among various religious and cultural communities on a global scale.
Nurtleu expressed his gratitude to Moratinos for his participation in the VII Congress of World and Traditional Religions' Leaders and commended his personal dedication to strengthening inter-civilizational dialogue. The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the mission of the Alliance of Civilizations, which aims to build bridges among different religions and cultures, aligns seamlessly with the goals and objectives of the Congress of World and Traditional Religions' Leaders.
In response, Moratinos highlighted the uniqueness of the Congress, emphasizing its pivotal role in promoting inter-religious and inter-faith dialogue. He underscored the significance of adopting the final Declaration of the VII Congress as a crucial step toward advancing global understanding and cooperation.
Towards the conclusion of their meeting, both leaders reached an agreement to organize a joint event at the UN Headquarters to further propagate the ideas outlined in the VII Congress Declaration, demonstrating their commitment to promoting interfaith cooperation and fostering a climate of mutual respect and dialogue among diverse cultures and religions.
The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, established in 2005 at the initiative of former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, in collaboration with the governments of Spain and Türkiye, is dedicated to enhancing cooperation among countries, organizations, civil communities, and the private sector to improve intercultural dialogue among different religions and communities worldwide. The Group of Friends of the Alliance currently comprises 160 member countries.
This meeting between Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister and the UNAOC High Representative signifies a strong commitment to the principles of interfaith dialogue, cultural understanding, and cooperation on the international stage, setting a positive precedent for continued collaboration in addressing global challenges through mutual respect and shared values.
