After the events of "Bloody January" in Kazakhstan in 2022, representatives of the Nazarbayev family began to lose their positions in large companies, state bodies, and organizations of Kazakhstan.
In particular, two sons-in-law of the first president of Kazakhstan left their positions in large oil and gas companies. Elbashi's youngest daughter Aliya's husband Dimash Dossanov resigned from the position of general director of "KazTransOil", and the husband of the eldest daughter Dariga, Kairat Sharipbayev, from the position of chairman of the board of "KazaqGaz National Company." Later, the third son-in-law, Timur Kulibayev, resigned from the post of the head of the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs.
The nephew of the President of Kazakhstan Nazarbayev, the first deputy head of the National Security Committee, signed the decree on the dismissal of Lieutenant General Samat Abish.
The eldest daughter of the first president of Kazakhstan, deputy Dariga Nazarbayeva, announced at the end of January that she would not participate in the plenary session of the lower house of the parliament until the end of January. Her press secretary explained that the politician's decision was related to the rehabilitation process after being infected with COVID-19.
"Bloody January" refers to a series of violent protests and clashes that occurred in Kazakhstan in January 2022 which were triggered by rising fuel prices and allegations of corruption within the government. The unrest erupted primarily in the city of Zhanaozen, located in the western part of the country.
