Australia is preparing to host an unprecedented international academic symposium that delves into the profound impact of Taylor Swift. Named the 'Swiftposium,' this three-day event, scheduled for February, aims to attract scholars from across the Asia-Pacific region. The idea for this event originated from a somewhat lighthearted tweet earlier this year but quickly garnered support from seven universities in Australia and New Zealand. The symposium seeks to explore Taylor Swift's far-reaching effects, including her role in shaping discussions on gender, identity, race, and intersectionality, along with her remarkable influence on the music business and more.
"Taylor Swift really does have a very concrete impact globally, across things that affect all of us," Dr Jennifer Beckett from the University of Melbourne said, pointing to things like the role of women in industry, entertainment law, and even GDP.
While Taylor Swift has been the subject of university courses in the United States, this symposium marks the world's first international gathering entirely dedicated to comprehensively dissecting the substantial impact of her work. Organizers are even open to the possibility of Taylor Swift herself attending, underscoring her significant influence across various spheres.
