Joe Jonas, the 34-year-old Jonas Brothers singer, has officially filed for divorce from his wife, Sophie Turner, 27, after four years of marriage. The news of their impending divorce comes as a shock to fans who have followed the couple's journey from dating to parenthood.
As per documents, Joe Jonas filed for the dissolution of their marriage on September 5 in Miami, citing that "the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken." It has been confirmed that the couple had a prenuptial agreement in place.
As news of the divorce filing broke, representatives for Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner did not immediately respond to requests for comments regarding the split.
The couple first crossed paths in 2016 through Instagram direct messages. Turner shared in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK in 2019 that they had many mutual friends who had been trying to introduce them for a while before they connected online. Their online connection quickly turned into a real-life romance.
“We had a lot of mutual friends, and they'd been trying to introduce us for a long time. We were following each other on Instagram and he direct-messaged me one fine day, out of the blue," Turner noted in the interview.
After nearly three years of dating, the couple got engaged in October 2017. Turner expressed her joy at being engaged in an interview with Marie Claire in April 2018, saying that finding Joe was like finding "her person" and brought her a sense of peace.
“Not like I achieved anything, but I found my person, like I'd find a house that I love and want to stay in forever,” she stated.
The singer and the Game of Thrones star surprised fans with a spontaneous wedding ceremony in Las Vegas on May 1, 2019, at the A Little White Wedding Chapel, complete with Ring Pop wedding rings. A month later, they had a more formal celebration at Le Château de Tourreau in Sarrians, France, surrounded by close family and friends.
Their family grew in July 2020 when Sophie Turner gave birth to their first child, a daughter named Willa. The couple, known for keeping their personal lives private, shared their excitement and joy about becoming parents.
In July 2022, representatives for both Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner confirmed that the couple had welcomed their second child, another daughter.
“It's been amazing to be a dad and to learn every day more about myself and what that's like. [I am] very much looking forward to the future on all things," Joe Jonas shared.
The divorce filing follows recent reports that Joe Jonas had retained a divorce lawyer, despite continuing to wear his wedding band.
