Kazakhstan's Minister of Agriculture, Aidarbek Saparov, and Tunisia's Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries, Abdelmonem Belati, discussed possibilities of the development of cooperation in the agricultural sector.
Speaking about expanding the range of supplied goods, Aidarbek Saparov noted that Kazakhstan traditionally occupies a leading position in exporting cereals and their processing products.
Exports of Kazakhstan's wheat to Tunisia began this year, with 72,700 tons delivered to the country's market.
Kazakhstan's Minister of Agriculture proposed to continue this trend and, in addition to cereals, to consider the possibility of purchasing domestic flour and flour products, pasta and confectionery products, vegetable oils, and honey.
Concerning importing products from Tunisia, Kazakhstan is mainly supplied with dates and fruits.
The parties also discussed the issue of the supply of olives and olive oil to Kazakhstan.
The Minister also stressed the need to work with Tunisia to construct new logistics routes.
Kazakhstan's Minister of Agriculture noted the interest of the Central Asian country in developing projects in the processing of agricultural products and food production. Aidarbek Saparov invited Tunisian companies to organize an exhibition on the territory of Kazakhstan.
The Tunisian side has also proposed increased cooperation in national food security policies, including drought management. The country was ready to share knowledge on modern agricultural technologies and innovations that could be applied in both countries.
The parties agreed to sign a memorandum of cooperation between the two countries' ministries after the meeting.
