The second gathering of railway administration leaders from the Organization of Turkic States convened in Istanbul, the Ministry of Transport's press service reports. During this meeting, held on September 14, a range of critical matters concerning mutual collaboration and broader cooperation were deliberated.
Among the topics addressed was the impending launch, in December 2022, of the inaugural freight train journeying from Turkey to Uzbekistan. Participants at the meeting voiced their support for similar train initiatives, linking various member states and observer nations, proposed by the OTS.
Furthermore, discussions revolved around the feasibility of establishing economically viable and punctual international railway corridors. Emphasis was placed on the significance of advancing multimodal transportation routes, particularly highlighting the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway line, which holds substantial potential for fortifying trade and economic connections among OTS member states and neighboring areas. The potential for creating alternate, efficient, and timely international railway passages within the OTS territory was also explored.
Additionally, the meeting attendees addressed strategic enhancements to railway infrastructure and the refinement of legal frameworks. They collectively recognized the necessity of addressing challenges and deficiencies while fostering public-private partnerships.
As an important point of reference, an agreement was reached to initiate and cultivate new transit transport corridors during the summit of Turkic States' presidents in Samarkand in November 2022. Notably, in December 2022, the Turkey-Iran-Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan route was inaugurated, providing one of the swiftest and most convenient cargo transportation routes connecting Uzbekistan and Turkey.
