A statue honoring the philosopher and encyclopedist Abu Rayhan Biruni is set to be erected within the premises of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University in India's capital, Dunyo reports.
A meeting took place between Uzbekistan's ambassador, Dilshod Ahadov, and the university's rector, Professor Najma Akhtar. During this meeting, Professor Akhtar lauded Biruni's extensive scientific legacy and underscored the significance of his work "Kitab ul-hind" as one of the earliest and unique scientific contributions concerning India.
The plan entails placing the Abu Rayhan Biruni statue in a bustling square that connects various university departments, including the law department, foreign language department, design and innovation department, as well as the Arab-Indian cultural center. Uzbekistan will present this statue to the university as a gift.
Towards the end of August, the decision was made by the head of state to support the establishment of the "UNESCO - Uzbekistan International Award Named after Abu Rayhan Biruni." As part of the celebration marking the 1050th anniversary of Abu Rayhan Biruni's birth, international exhibitions and events are scheduled to take place in Paris from September 4 to 8.
Al-Biruni was a Khwarazmian-Iranian scholar and polymath during the Islamic Golden Age. He has been called variously the "founder of Indology", "Father of Comparative Religion", "Father of modern geodesy", and the first anthropologist.
