Burkina Faso's Council of Ministers has endorsed a bill for deploying a military contingent to Niger, as reported by Burkina24.
The decision aligns with the country's strategic commitments. The Defense Minister of Burkina Faso, Kassum Kulibali, emphasized that sending their contingent to Niger would enhance the fight against terrorism, given the close interconnection between Niger's and Burkina Faso's security.
In late July, Niger's military announced on national television that President Mohamed Bazoum had been removed, borders were closed, and a curfew was imposed. General Abdurahman Tchiani, the head of the presidential guard, emerged on Niger's state TV as the leader of the coup, known as the "National Council for Homeland Protection."
The coup received condemnation from Western leaders and the regional organization Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). In early August, the chiefs of staff of ECOWAS member states devised a plan for potential military intervention in Niger during an extraordinary meeting in Abuja, Nigeria.
