Russian dissident Dmitry Gudkov has drawn parallels between the fate of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner private military group, and Ramzan Kadyrov, the Chechen leader, suggesting that Kadyrov might face a similar situation, Bild reports.
Gudkov posits that following the demise of the Wagner leader, Russian security forces could target influential figures within the country, fearing their disappearance during a period of potential upheaval in Russia.
Gudkov identifies Ramzan Kadyrov as a potential target and questions the rationale behind eliminating someone seemingly loyal to Putin. Although Kadyrov has been dubbed "Putin's trusted soldier," he has previously boasted about actions against Russians during Chechnya's conflicts.
The once-perceived unity within the Russian government has shown cracks with the Prigozhin incident, exposing a different reality where conflicts are becoming more visible to the outside world. Gudkov notes that Putin's role as a mediator between factions has diminished, leading to conflicts spilling into public view.
Gudkov points out that Kadyrov's substantial armed forces and influence outside the government make him a formidable player. His opposition to Russian statehood and his capacity to mobilize well-trained troops could potentially put him in the crosshairs of Russian security forces.
Gudkov concludes by suggesting that internal tensions within Russia are intensifying, possibly leading to confrontations between security agencies and even the Ministry of Defense.
