Kazakhstan is planning to implement a six-month embargo on the import of wheat through rail and road transportation from both third countries and the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union. The Ministry of Agriculture has formulated the corresponding preliminary directive.
As outlined in the document, the import of wheat via railway channels will be permitted exclusively for licensed grain elevators, grain processing enterprises, and poultry facilities.
Recent updates indicate that the country is grappling with a considerable financial setback stemming from unsold grain, amounting to roughly $614.4mn (284bn tenge). Remarkably, this figure is twice the magnitude of state assistance in the form of a budgetary loan.
Earlier, Daryo reported that Kazakhstan has successfully exported 4.1mn tons of grain to Central Asian countries and Afghanistan within the 1H 2023, as per an official report from the Ministry of Agriculture.
