Kazakhstan is evaluating the possibility of halting oil exports via the Black Sea, Interfax reports. Eric Sagiyev, Deputy CEO of the state-owned firm "KazTransOil," conveyed this consideration and mentioned that if such a circumstance arises, Kazakhstan would be compelled to reroute its oil shipments to Ust-Luga on the Baltic Sea.
Sagiyev explained, "In the event of a deterioration in the situation in the Black Sea, our oil, which is currently transported to the port of Sheskharis (Novorossiysk), will be redirected to the port of Ust-Luga."
Novorossiysk Port and Oil Export
The port of Novorossiysk serves as the largest Russian oil terminal situated on the Black Sea. In the early days of August 2023, a temporary restriction on ship movement within Novorossiysk waters was imposed; however, oil shipment by the Caspian Pipeline Consortium remained unaffected.
The Caspian Pipeline Consortium, responsible for exporting over 80% of Kazakhstan's oil, establishes a link between the Tengiz field in western Kazakhstan and other fields to a maritime terminal close to Novorossiysk on Russia's Black Sea coastline.
