At a recent meeting held in Seoul, Uzbekistan's diplomats engaged in a dialogue with So Dae-hoon, Director of the Korea Association of Travel Agents (KATA), regarding Uzbekistan's tourism potential, rich historical and cultural heritage, ongoing reforms, and efforts to enhance tourism infrastructure.
A separate emphasis was placed on promising areas of cooperation in order to attract a greater flow of South Korean tourists to Uzbekistan. The South Korean representative praised Uzbekistan's ongoing reforms, particularly in tourism, and expressed a desire to enhance cooperation.
Uzbekistan's diplomats invited KATA Director to attend the 25th session of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) General Assembly in Samarkand on October 16-20.
Besides, the discussion centered around the possibility of pilgrimage tourism to Uzbekistan, specifically the Surkhandarya region, where ancient Buddhist monuments such as monasteries, sanctuaries, stupas, and decorated caves like Kara-Tepa and Fayaz-Tepa can be found. Seo Dae-hoon stated that collaborative efforts in these areas could significantly increase the flow of tourism between the two countries.
The Korea Association of Travel Agents (KATA) was founded in 1991 and represents over 2,000 tourism companies in South Korea, including representatives of local departments, authorities, and leading airlines such as Korean Air and Asiana Airlines, as well as branches of foreign travel organizations.
