Afghanistan's Minister of Industry and Trade, Alhaji Nuruddin Azizi, made an appeal to Kazakhstan during a recent business forum in Astana, requesting assistance in strengthening Afghanistan's economy through discounted wheat imports and increased support for domestic production, Tengrinews reported.
Afghanistan has been making significant strides in enhancing its local industries and striving for self-sufficiency in the wake of challenging circumstances. Minister Azizi emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two nations to foster economic growth and stability.
"We ask Kazakhstan to apply a preferential tariff to the exported Afghan goods in order to support Afghanistan's local industry. Additionally, in support of Afghanistan's population and private sector, we ask you to consider providing discounts on wheat and flour prices," the minister stated," Minister Azizi appealed.
The bilateral relationship between Afghanistan and Kazakhstan has been strengthening, with the two countries recently signing a series of 15 agreements totaling a substantial $190.8 mn in value. These agreements span various sectors and involve businesses from both nations.
Kazakhstan, a notable exporter of agricultural products, flour, and vegetable oil, has established a significant presence in Afghanistan's market. Afghanistan stands as one of the prominent importers of Kazakh vegetable oil, showcasing the economic ties that have developed between the two nations.
Nine out of the fifteen signed contracts focus specifically on the supply of oil, underscoring the importance of this commodity in their trade relationship. The recent appeals made by Afghanistan's Minister of Industry and Trade further highlight the mutual benefits that can arise from continued cooperation and support.
As Afghanistan embarks on a journey toward economic self-reliance, partnerships with countries like Kazakhstan play a pivotal role in providing the necessary resources and avenues for growth.
