On August 10, the Supreme Court's press service disclosed information regarding a high-profile criminal case related to the controversial drug "Dok-1 Max." The case has sparked public outcry due to its connection to the deaths of 65 young children in Uzbekistan. The accused individuals, including executives of Quramax Medical LLC and officials from the "State Center for Expertise and Standardization of Medicines, Medical Products, and Medical Equipment" DUK, are set to face trial. The trial date is scheduled for August 11, at 10:00 a.m.
Case overview
The individuals at the centre of the criminal case include S.R.P. and S.K., who held key positions in Quramax Medical LLC and the State Center for Expertise and Standardization of Medicines, Medical Products, and Medical Equipment, respectively. A total of 21 people are implicated in the case, with 16 men and 5 women among the defendants. Notably, 7 defendants are currently in custody, 12 have been ordered to exhibit good behaviour, and 2 have been subjected to precautionary measures in the form of bail.
The accused individuals are facing a range of charges, as outlined in Articles 184, 28, 186-3, 25, 205, 207, 209, 210, 211, 212, and 228 of the Criminal Code. The indictment alleges their involvement in crimes related to pharmaceutical malpractice, negligence, and potentially even manslaughter. The gravity of these charges stems from the tragic outcome of their actions: the deaths of 65 young children who had consumed the "Dok-1 Max" syrup.
Origins of the tragedy
Earlier Daryo mentioned that the origin of the tragedy lies in the consumption of "Dok-1 Max" syrup, which is produced in India by Marion Biotech Pvt. Ltd. The drug came under scrutiny after more than 20 children in Uzbekistan died as a result of consuming the syrup. The deaths prompted authorities to investigate the matter, leading to the suspension of Marion Biotech Pvt. Ltd's licence. The company held licences to manufacture various types of drugs at their Noida plant, including Form 25 and Form 28.
The revelation of the criminal case has ignited public outrage and intensified calls for justice. The loss of innocent lives, especially among children, has raised serious concerns about the safety and regulatory oversight of pharmaceutical products. Uzbek authorities have taken a firm stance to ensure that those responsible for this tragedy are held accountable for their actions. The upcoming trial is seen as a pivotal moment to address the grievous consequences of the "Dok-1 Max" incident.
