Russian President Vladimir Putin's relatives have been noted for their involvement in prominent roles within banks and state corporations, according to a report by The Moscow Times. The relatives' career choices and earnings have attracted attention and scrutiny.
One example highlighted in the report is Vera Podguzova, who is Putin's niece from her mother's side. In 2020, at the age of 36, she held the position of Senior Vice President at Promsvyazbank. This bank has come under Western sanctions due to its involvement in serving the state defence order. Notably, Vera Podguzova's monthly salary was nearly 2 mn rubles, which amounts to around $20,715. In addition to her career at Promsvyazbank, her husband Dmitry Podguzov holds the position of Deputy Director for Administrative and Economic Affairs at the hospital of Russian Railways.
Vera Podguzova's political journey began after she adopted the surname "Putina" in 2007, thus marking the start of her political career. She initially worked as the editor-in-chief of the party magazine "Rossiya Yedinaya" and subsequently became a municipal deputy in the central district of St. Petersburg. Her rise within the political sphere continued, as she joined the board of directors of "Ganzakombank" and eventually assumed a role at Promsvyazbank. Before her tenure at Promsvyazbank, Vera Podguzova held the position of Managing Director of External Relations and Communications at the Russian Export Center.
Yelena Zhidkova, another niece of President Putin, has also made her mark in the corporate world. She currently serves as the head of RJD-Medicine, overseeing a network of 360 hospitals and polyclinics across 75 regions in Russia. Yelena Zhidkova's annual income reportedly amounts to 20 mn rubles, approximately $206,675. Her mother holds a position as Deputy Chief Doctor at the polyclinic of the presidential administration, which caters to government officials.
In an interview, Vera Podguzova acknowledged the influence of her family members, stating that they have contributed to her personal and professional growth. She expressed gratitude for the lessons and characteristics instilled by her parents.
