Heavy rains in eastern Sweden have damaged roads, flooded streets in cities, and caused a train to derail. Three people were injured, Euronews has reported.
The Susabak River, flowing through the country's center, overflowed, leading to severe flooding that meteorologists predict will continue.
Dozens of individuals were evacuated from both Sweden and neighboring Norway. Intense rains brought by the storm "Hans" to the southern part of the country resulted in the cancellation of several flights and the closure of many roads, some of which experienced landslides and rockfalls, while low-lying areas suffered from inundation.
According to Mayor Paul Terje Rørby of Hemsedal:
"We pay special attention to the areas and villages prone to landslides. It's difficult to protect them, and we keep a constant watch on them, striving to remain vigilant."
The aftermath of the storm was also felt in Denmark: gusts of wind disrupted rail, air, and sea transportation. Dozens of vacationers on the western coast were forced to leave the area as beachfront cottages were washed away into the ocean.
On the other side of the Baltic Sea, in Latvia, the weather still resembles more of autumn than summer. A strong storm caused significant damage to crops and some houses in the Dobele municipality. The wind knocked down trees and tore roofs off houses.
