Turkmenistan prioritises its natural gas supplies to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov said this at a press conference in Ashgabat August 4 in the presence of his Uzbek and Tajik counterparts Bakhtiyer Saidov and Sirodzhiddin Mukhriddin, local observers told Daryo.
"Undoubtedly, the priority will be to supply Turkmen gas to its closest neighbours, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan," Meredov said.
New opportunities are opening up, he said. At Galkynysh, the second largest gas field in the world, large-scale work is underway to develop the third and fourth stages of commercial development
"In the coming years, Turkmenistan's gas production volumes may additionally increase by at least 60bn cubic metres of gas annualy."
According to BP, Turkmenistan produced 78bn cubic metres of gas in 2022, with China being the main buyer.
