Shadurdy Meredov has been appointed Turkmenistan's ambassador to Uzbekistan, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports. The corresponding decree was signed by the president.
The diplomat had previously headed the embassy in Kyrgyzstan since 2016.
The 1,650-km border with Uzbekistan is the longest for Turkmenistan. Last year, trade turnover between the countries increased by 67% to $902mn, five times more than in 2017.
Uzbekistan not only buys Turkmen energy carriers, but is also an important transit country, as two main gas pipelines pass through its territory, through which Turkmenistan exports natural gas to China and Russia.
