Uzbekistan has launched an initiative to digitally register 1mn trees in the capital by the end of 2025, aiming to protect the city’s green spaces through innovative technology.

The Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, in collaboration with the Tashkent City Khokimiyat and with support from the Zamin International Public Foundation, has begun building a comprehensive digital registry of trees in Tashkent.
The project follows a series of training sessions, fieldwork, and equipment testing led by specialists from the Ministry and the Tashkent Department of Digital Development.

The digital registry, accessible via green.tashkent.uz, will systematically catalogue trees across the city, integrating the data with existing state information systems related to urban planning and land use. Officials say this will improve oversight, ensure better preservation efforts, and help prevent illegal logging.
To carry out the project, specialists are using GPS devices, photo documentation, instrumental measurements, and artificial intelligence tools to analyze tree data.
Each entry in the registry will include verified information from dendrologists, such as the tree’s species, age, condition, and exact coordinates.
