City Football Group (CFG), the global football holding company that owns Manchester City, is in talks to acquire an Uzbek football club and sign another promising player from Uzbekistan, according to Otabek Umarov, First Deputy Chairman of Uzbekistan’s National Olympic Committee.

Umarov made the announcement during a ceremony marking Uzbekistan’s Day of the Press and Mass Media, highlighting the growing international interest in Uzbek football following the recent success of Abdukodir Khusanov.
“After Abdukodir Khusanov joined Manchester City, the club’s fanbase grew by 100mn, which clearly includes followers from Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries,” Umarov said. “Now, City Football Group is planning to buy another of our footballers—and one of our clubs.”
Khusanov’s move to the Premier League champions has been widely celebrated in Uzbekistan, contributing to a surge in regional interest in the English club. His performance appears to have opened the door for deeper engagement between CFG and Uzbek football.
City Football Group, established by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates, owns or has stakes in several clubs across the globe, including Manchester City (England), Girona (Spain), New York City FC (USA), Melbourne City (Australia), Mumbai City (India), Yokohama Marinos (Japan), Bahia (Brazil), and Troyes (France). The group also maintains strategic partnerships with clubs in Italy and Bolivia.
