Oscar-winning actor Judi Dench recently revealed that her degenerative eye condition has left her unable to read scripts or see on set, CNN reports.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror's Notebook magazine, Dench, 88, expressed the challenges of learning lines with her condition, stating, "I mean I can't see on a film set anymore, and I can't see to read. So I can't see much. But you know you just deal with it. Get on."
Despite her vision difficulties, Dench remains determined to continue working and has an impressive photographic memory that aids her in memorizing scripts. She disclosed that friends help her learn lines, but she acknowledges the difficulty when dealing with longer parts.
The acclaimed actress, who won an Oscar for her role in "Shakespeare in Love," disclosed in 2012 that she was diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Earlier this year, she mentioned on "The Graham Norton Show" that learning lines had become impossible.
Despite the challenges, Dench maintains a positive outlook and tries to live life to the fullest. She revealed her tattoo with the words "carpe diem" (seize the day) as a symbol of her approach to life. Her memory and dedication to her craft have earned her accolades and recognition, and she continues to be an inspiration to many.
