Ayn Shams University's Professor Muhammad al-Jibali has taken on the task of translating Abdullah Qodiriy's novel "Bygone Days" into Arabic, Dunyo reports.
During his visit to the House-Museum of Abdullah Qodiriy and meeting with the writer's grandsons, he became deeply interested in Uzbek culture and history, leading him to develop a passion for Uzbek literature.
Surprised that Uzbekistan's rich literary heritage has not been translated into foreign languages, he believes the Arabic translation of "Bygone Days" will be well-received in Egypt and throughout the Arab world.
To ensure the translation captures the Uzbek spirit and is of the highest quality, he will be assisted by Uzbek nationals residing in Egypt.
The translation is expected to be completed by 2024, in time for the 100th anniversary of the novel, and will be presented at the 55th Cairo International Book Fair.
"Bygone Days" was written in the early 1920s and first published in the journal "Inkilob." Based on the original uncensored 1926 edition, the first complete edition was published in Cyrillic in Tashkent in 1994.
Abdullah Qodiriy's novel "Bygone Days" was first translated directly from Uzbek into English by Mark Edward Reese and published as a book in the United States in 2019.
