Some 300 demonstrators congregated outside a Rammstein concert in Berlin on Saturday, demanding the cancellation of the show due to sexual assault accusations against the band's frontman, Till Lindemann, DW reports.
Protesters held signs bearing messages like "stop rape culture" and "only yes means yes." A police spokesperson indicated that the protest remained peaceful and free from major incidents.
At the end of the concert at Berlin's 1936 Olympic stadium, attended by approximately 60,000 people, Till Lindemann expressed gratitude, saying, "We're home again! Thank you, Berlin!"
Despite more than 76,000 signatures on a petition titled "No stage for Rammstein," calling for the band to be prevented from performing in Berlin, the concert proceeded as scheduled. The petition was launched in response to the sexual misconduct allegations against Lindemann.
A group called RammNein! took further action by hijacking several billboards in the city to protest the concerts. Berlin's Senator for Culture, former metal singer Joe Chialo, acknowledged the emotional understanding behind the petition but stated that it lacked a legal basis to halt the concerts.
Till Lindemann has faced multiple accusations of sexual misconduct and creating uncomfortable situations for women after concerts. The allegations came to light on social media, with one young Irish woman claiming she was drugged and propositioned by Lindemann at a backstage party in Vilnius.
Lindemann's lawyers have firmly denied all allegations, refuting claims of drugging women for sexual acts. The Berlin public prosecutor's office has initiated preliminary proceedings against Lindemann in light of the accusations.
