North Korea's upcoming 70th anniversary of Victory Day celebration will witness the presence of the Russian defense minister and a high-level Chinese delegation as special guests, DW reports.
KCNA states that a military delegation from Russia, led by Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, will visit the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to pay their congratulatory respects.
Similarly, a Chinese delegation, led by Politburo member Li Hongzhong, vice chairman of the standing committee of the country's National People's Congress, is scheduled to visit Pyongyang starting on July 26. The engagement of both delegations is viewed as significant diplomatic interaction with the isolated nation.
North Korea's relations with Russia remain robust, with Kim Jong Un, the country's leader, expressing unwavering support for Russia's actions in Ukraine. Allegedly, North Korea has provided weapons to Moscow, as per Washington's claims.
China, being North Korea's primary ally and economic supporter, saw some trade resumption with Pyongyang last year after a self-imposed coronavirus blockade. This year, Beijing appointed a new envoy to North Korea.
However, relations between the two Koreas have reached a low point, with diplomatic talks between Pyongyang and Seoul stalled, and North Korea's military development escalating. Tensions have further risen with a recent incident involving a US soldier crossing the border into North Korea, while US-South Korean military drills have also irked Pyongyang.
The upcoming celebration in North Korea will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korean War armistice, known as "Victory Day" in the country. The event is planned to be grand, featuring a large-scale military parade and other significant activities. Satellite imagery indicates that both soldiers and civilians have undergone training for the parade for several months.
During the celebration, North Korean leader Kim's nuclear-capable missiles and military advancements are expected to be showcased.
