Turkmenistan has opened the first primary health care facility with a solar energy system, the "Turkmenistan. Golden Age" online resource reports.
The polyclinic is located in the village of Pelvert in Lebap region. This innovative project was implemented by the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan together with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
"A continuous supply of clean electricity will ensure round-the-clock operation of all necessary equipment. This will allow uninterrupted provision of medical services even during natural disasters."
The article says UNICEF has developed a comprehensive strategy for climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable health facilities.
In Turkmenistan, about 300 days a year are sunny, and the duration of sunny days reaches 2,500-3,000 hours.
In addition, the country has one of the largest sandy deserts in the world - the Karakum, which contains silicon - a key chemical element for the creation of solar equipment.
Previously, Daryo wrote that according to research by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Turkmenistan could technically become a source of solar energy for the whole of Central Asia.
