Since the advent of 2023, the budgets of local executive bodies in Kazakhstan have received KZT 314mn (nearly $707,000) from foreign tourist contributions.
The city of Almaty accounts for 86% of the total, with KZT 270.6mn, while Astana received more than KZT 37.7mn.
The local authorities establish the tourist fee charged for each day of stay in places of accommodation separate from hostels or rental housing.
Earlier, Daryo reported that Almaty is considered the most popular city in Kazakhstan for tourists due to its ski resorts, picturesque nature, pleasant climate, and welcoming locals. It attracts the highest number of visitors in the country. In the first four months of the current year, 1,185,130 individuals have already explored the charms of this southern metropolis.
Astana is the second most visited city in Kazakhstan. It's not just an administrative center but also a popular tourist destination. In the first four months of 2023, over 951,750 people visited the capital. The Ministry of Culture and Sports is currently supporting the construction of Bozok, the largest open-air museum in the country, which is expected to become Astana's main tourist attraction.
