The spirit of collaboration and dedication displayed by Kazakhstan's SU Racing student team of automotive engineers from Satbayev University earned them the prestigious "Spirit of Shell Eco-marathon" award. The accolade was given in recognition of their outstanding contributions, passion, creativity, and commitment at the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2023 and the Middle East 2023 competition held in Indonesia.
The SU Racing team assisted teams from China, Indonesia, and the Philippines. They played a pivotal role in installing and fine-tuning the braking mechanisms of these teams' vehicles and helped them successfully pass the technical inspection. Thanks to the Kazakh team's support, these teams were able to continue participating in the prestigious competition. The award highlights the spirit of camaraderie and cooperation among students who utilize their skills to contribute positively to the success of others.
Norman Koch, the Global General Manager of the Shell Eco-marathon, commended the students' remarkable performance and innovative ideas. He expressed awe at the young minds' ability to overcome challenges and achieve exceptional results in designing energy-efficient vehicles during the intense competition.
“It is awe-inspiring to see the high standard of performance and the innovative ideas that these young minds come up with. Despite encountering numerous challenges throughout the competition, they persevered and achieved exceptional results in designing energy-efficient vehicles,” Norman Koch said.
The Kazakh students' own creation was a modular dismantled car powered by an electric battery, which managed to travel an impressive distance of 261.1 kilometers using just one kilowatt-hour of energy. This remarkable achievement showcased not only their engineering prowess but also their commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly transportation solutions.
Reflecting on the exhilarating experience, Alibek Ibraim, captain of the SU Racing team, expressed his joy at successfully assembling a reliable car and the team's pride in being noticed by the judges among the talented participants from various countries.
“The last three days have been full of emotions and hopes. … I am happy that we managed to assemble a reliable car and that the judges noticed our team from Kazakhstan,” said Alibek Ibraim
The Shell Eco-marathon championship brought together approximately 75 teams from 13 countries across the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions. The event provided an invaluable platform for young engineering minds to showcase their skills and innovative ideas in the pursuit of energy efficiency and sustainability in the automotive industry.
