On July 18, explosions were reported in Odessa, a city in the south-west of Ukraine, and Nikolayevo city, with the port infrastructure being damaged. Air raid alarms were also sounded in several regions of Ukraine, RIA News has reported.
Odessa experienced several powerful explosions. The head of the public council at the Odessa regional military administration, Sergey Bratchuk, stated that "port infrastructure objects were damaged by missile debris and the blast wave from the downing."
Vitaly Kim, the head of the Nikolaev regional military administration, informed through his Telegram channel about an incident in an industrial facility, resulting in a fire that was promptly extinguished. The specific location of the incident was not clarified by Kim. However, videos posted by eyewitnesses on social media indicated a significant fire in Nikolaev, which was brought under control only by the morning. The affected "industrial facility" appeared to be an oil depot near the port area.
Multiple fire outbreaks at the Nikolaev seaport oil terminal were also registered by the American fire monitoring system.
In addition, several Telegram channels reported explosions in Ochakiv.
A few hours after the initial reports of explosions, the authorities in Odessa and Nikolaev warned residents of the possibility of a missile attack. Air raid sirens were activated in Kharkiv, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Cherkasy regions, and in the occupied Zaporizhzhia controlled by the Kyiv regime. Strong explosions were heard in Kharkiv, with the media mentioning the activity of air defense systems, but no further details were provided.
As of now, the Russian Ministry of Defense has not commented on this information.
