Gigi Hadid, the renowned American model, was recently arrested and fined for drug possession in the Cayman Islands. The incident occurred earlier this month when Hadid and her friend arrived on a private jet for a holiday on July 10. Upon searching their luggage, authorities discovered cannabis, leading to their detention.
Both Hadid and her friend pleaded guilty in court and promptly paid the imposed fine. However, no conviction was recorded against them. Hadid's representative clarified that the marijuana had been legally purchased in New York under a medical license. They further explained that the substance has been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. The representative emphasized that Hadid's record remains clear, and she continued to enjoy the remainder of her time on the island.
As per the Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control, Hadid and her friend, Leah McCarthy, were arrested for "the importation of marijuana and importation of utensils used for the consumption of marijuana." The agency clarified that it was a small amount intended for personal use. Following their arrest, the duo was taken to a detention center but was later released on bail, as reported by the local newspaper, the Cayman Marl Road.
Two days after their arrest, Hadid and McCarthy appeared in the Cayman Islands summary court, where they were fined $1,200. Despite the incident, Hadid seemed to maintain a positive outlook during her holiday. She shared photos of her beachside getaway on Instagram, captioning them with the words, "All's well that ends well."
