Aymyrat Gochmyradov has been appointed Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Tajikistan (Dushanbe), local TV channel Miras reports.
The decree was signed by Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The diplomat previously served as Turkmenistan's consul general in Afghanistan (Herat).
Local experts told Daryo that Ashgabat is linked to Dushanbe by several major economic projects.
Turkmenistan hopes to reach China and from there to the Asia-Pacific region through construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan (TAT) railway.
There are also plans to use Tajikistan's territory to build an additional fourth branch of a transnational gas pipeline from Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to China.
Berdimuhamedov recently received Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin in Ashgabat, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reports. Official Ashgabat emphasised readiness for joint full-scale work, taking into account the existing bilateral potential.
In turn, a Tajik Foreign Ministry press release said that Mukhriddin, during his meeting with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov, discussed holding a meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, in autumn.
