Turkmenistan has summarised the results of the population census held in December, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports.
The State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan presented the final data at a government meeting. As of 17 December 2022, the total population of the country was more than 7mn people.
Of these, 22.9% are in Mary region, 22% in Dashoguz, 20.5% in Lebap, 14.6% in Ashgabat city, 12.5% in Akhal and 7.5% in Balkan.
About 50% of the population is male, more than 50% is female, 47.1% is urban and 52.9% is rural.
